Food For Thought

Mr.Lasko: some tips on being served...

Please read over and take the appropriate measures by tuesday.

[excerpt]
Q:
What do you do if the menu is fixed and you are served something you do not want?
A:
Be polite and appreciative. Never criticize or state a dislike for a food that is served to you (something we all should have learned by age 5). This is insulting to your host. Simply eat foods you do like, and make an attempt to taste unfamiliar foods. If you are asked point blank if you like something, and it would be an obvious untruth to say you do, say something gracious like, "It's different," or "I'm not accustomed to this flavor, but I'm glad for the opportunity to try this." The job for which you are interviewing may involve business travel and dining in other other cultures than your own. You could be evaluated for you grace in such situations.

Now you must understand: I was under the impression that you were thick skinned. In fact, you frequently say all Koreans are thick skinned. Apparently, you have lied to me, and you are quite thin skinned. For all I know, you might be even be molting. So here it is, Snakewoman, I apologize for insulting you, and your cooking skills. Can we have tarte flambe tomorrow?

Here's the thing...this little PB&J war you have started really does not negatively affect me at all. It in fact benefits me. However, you will be very, very hungry the next few tues/thurs nights. I didn't "make" the pizza, so it makes no diff to me whether you think it is well cooked or not. I hope you make good tarte flambe...that sounds yummy. Yes, why don't you bring that?

It appears you may have interpreted my apology as less than sincere. First, let me officially apologize for further damaging your already thin skin. Next, as instructed by your post, let me say that the pizza you served last Tuesday was "different [from the pizza of the previous week...and the week before]" and "I'm not accustomed to this flavor [except maybe from last week...and the week before], but I'm glad for the opportunity to try this [again]".

I feel someone should stop you before you hurt yourself...but it won't be me. Now for the flambe, will you do the actual flaming in class or during break?
