What Is Fishing?

If you have poles in front of you, but catch no fish, are you fishing? If you are not paying any attention to those poles, are you fishing? What is fishing? I say fishing is hanging out with girls in the middle of the night on a pier while the men pretend they are doing something with the poles, but really are not.
