Watch Out Posh!

There is a section of Southcoast Plaza that I have walked through before, but never entered. It is like hallowed ground for the rich OC ladies...you know, the section with marble floors and Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, etc...

I have always been way too intimidated to ever go into those shops. They would take one look at me and laugh, I imagined. Plus, it would kill me a little to ever admit I wanted to go into one of those shops.

Well, I walked into Gucci yesterday on a mission. I went in with my Old Navy khaki pants and Old Navy printed T-shirt and bought a purse for my mom. My mom is nice, she has been a good mother, and all her friends has nice purses. I was determined this Christmas my mom would have a nice purse too.

WOW! What a difference purchasing power makes! I got a free water bottle, I got great service! I even got to go into one of their fitting rooms which was actually larger and nicer than my real room. After I walked out with a huge gold Gucci bag that showed I had bought a purse at Gucci, and then I bought a small something at Nordstrom for my roommate, I felt confident to go into all the stores I never had dared to before. BTW, all the sales people gave me little cards with their names on it. JCREW sales people do not do this.

They saw my bags and immediately started treating me really nicely and was showing me everything. Yes, it was shameful behavior and I felt a little dirty afterwards.

This is all a very sad commentary on our society and for a second I ate it all up. I'm becoming Posh. Please give me a potato sack for Christmas to bring me back into reality.

I don't think it really matters what kind of shopping bag you're carrying in your hand. It's all about your attitude. You just need to walk in there with a conviction-- just act like you have enough money to buy anything there. And they'll leave you alone (or suck up to you). It's kind of like living in a jungle. It's all in your eyes(stare).
