Waking Up In The Dark

Due to this new DST and the fact that I have to be at work by 7am, I am now waking up and driving to work in darkness.

According to this LA Times article this can contribute to depression.

"It's unnatural to wake up in the dark, says Avery. But modern lifestyles have taken Mother Nature out of the equation"

In light of this (pun not intended), I apologize to any of my friends who I have been ready to throw things at for the past week (unless I still don't like you) and hope we can chalk it up to DST. BTW, I have also been in a bad mood because I've had to endure my cooking/ frozen foods due to lent and have stayed away from my dearly, dearly, beloved restaurants.

My sleep was interrupted. My morning light was taken away. Oh and most importantly--my food was interrupted.

On a side note: this has all caused me to go on an unfortunate shopping splurge in which I bought hardly anything and spent craploads. I am still sitting on the receipt...return? not return? so cute! so expensive. Crap. crap. CRAP.

You know, I never used to want to go shopping...in fact I used to wear the same $3 fluorescent flipflops everywhere for like 5 years throughout high school and college until my best friend visited me in college, got mad I still had them, and broke them. I also only had 2 pairs of pants. Until last year I only had 2 pairs of jeans. What the hell happened to me? I need food.

Since when is the LA times an expert on what causes depression? My grandmother gets up at 5:30 every morning. She's not depressed. She's perfectly happy. Nor is she an exception to the rule. Plenty of people get up that early. For what reason, I can't imagine; but they do, and they are fine. You will be fine.

I would sympathize with you but I wake up even earlier to get to work at 6 a.m. I'm not depressed because of DST--it's PMS. AND, you KNOW you won't get any sympathy from me with the whole lent thing. I also forgot to tell you that on top of the 21-day fast I had, I also fasted from wine and chocolates for 40 plus days. I'm not gloating--just letting you know this too shall pass.
