Bad Barista, Bad.

So everytime I go to the Starbucks on the corner of Baker and Harbor I cringe when I see this particular barista. He is rude, crazy, cocky, and ALWAYS screws up my drink. He is also not calm...I mean really, really high strung. Usually I see him and then go elsewhere for my coffee but today I did not spot him. I spotted someone else doing the coffee and so I went in.

I must be more careful in my examination next time.

So I ordered my decaf, venti, toffee-nut latte with soy milk. What I got was soy milk mixed with water or something. Seriously, there was like NO coffee in it...no decaf, nothing. And it was cold but I had already left for work by the time I tasted it. I kinda spit and choked when I tasted it. Not one to waste a $4 luxury drink, I went and heated it up in the microwave. Now it tasted like hot soy milk + water. Then I added our work crap coffee. I drank about 1/3 of it and then could not take it anymore. I poured it out. This was most disappointing as I woke up extra early this Saturday to buy this luxury coffee.

I will try again Sunday morning for the perfect coffee. After that, I must reinitiate my Starbucks ban.

What Happens When You Go Against God

So I broke Lent after working a thousand OT hours this week. I was so tired and the idea of making dinner was painful. Sari invited me to Happy Hour for some wings and I hopped on.

So do not break Lent. Bad things happen. See message below. I cut the email...but multiply it by about 4x and you get the picture.

The BIG 80's are BACK!

Big hair, big songs, big polka dots. Big falls. Oh whoops...did I mention that the minute I got into the club I fell flat on my face down the stairs? No matter. It's not like they noticed me in my bright red polka dotted dress. As we walked toward the club on the corner of Hollywood and Sunset with me in a short, red dress, with fishnet stockings, and heels I noticed some men coming toward me with cash... just kidding. Okay, most certainly moving out of the G-rated zone here, sorry kids. Don't tell your parents on me.

Birthday party for two of my very closest friends...Jamie below getting her groove on to "Like a Virgin"...

And Sari, in the middle in her decidedly NON-80's Sailor Moon costume. Her excuse was that she was pretty sure in Japan teenagers dressed like this in the 80's. This is likely true. They also dressed like that in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 90's and 2000's.

Jamie in her leg warmers and me in my fishnet/polka dot heels. Oh yeah, we were rockin'.

...but not as rockin' as this man...

The Evite I Received

80's Party

"Don your legwarmers, taper your jeans, tease your bangs, spray your pompadors, and throw on those l.a. gears or karate shoes as we get ready to moonwalk and do the smurf to the eighties THIS FRIDAY 10pm-2am at the best 80s club in hollywood! 80s attire - optional requirement! HaHa! Sike! We just want to see you there! This party is gonna be FRESH - If you don't think so, you're gonna be MOTED!

As this will be a party of two of my best friends, I really should go. However, I wasn't cool in the 80's...I'm not sure how to be cool wearing 80's now. I know it can be done--I've seen the fads coming back...I just don't know how.

I just don't think I can rock it like these people can:

Picture of the Day

By the way, if I seem to be in any sort of physical duress, you can pretty much guess someone pummeled me for posting. I don't think Ben really reads this blog anyways so it's all good.

Waking Up In The Dark

Due to this new DST and the fact that I have to be at work by 7am, I am now waking up and driving to work in darkness.

According to this LA Times article this can contribute to depression.

"It's unnatural to wake up in the dark, says Avery. But modern lifestyles have taken Mother Nature out of the equation"

In light of this (pun not intended), I apologize to any of my friends who I have been ready to throw things at for the past week (unless I still don't like you) and hope we can chalk it up to DST. BTW, I have also been in a bad mood because I've had to endure my cooking/ frozen foods due to lent and have stayed away from my dearly, dearly, beloved restaurants.

My sleep was interrupted. My morning light was taken away. Oh and most importantly--my food was interrupted.

On a side note: this has all caused me to go on an unfortunate shopping splurge in which I bought hardly anything and spent craploads. I am still sitting on the receipt...return? not return? so cute! so expensive. Crap. crap. CRAP.

You know, I never used to want to go shopping...in fact I used to wear the same $3 fluorescent flipflops everywhere for like 5 years throughout high school and college until my best friend visited me in college, got mad I still had them, and broke them. I also only had 2 pairs of pants. Until last year I only had 2 pairs of jeans. What the hell happened to me? I need food.

Lent Is Hard

Things I have turned down or cancelled this week:

Iberian Wine Tasting at 21 Oceanfront

Napa Wine Tasting at Southcoast Plaza

Weekend in Vegas

Celebrating Mark Monsod's birthday at Outback Steakhouse

Nanny did put things in perspective for me as she had told me she did a 21-day fast of only fruits, vegetables, water and green tea while I am simply giving up going to restaurants for dinner. However, I was determined to remain unassuaged by this for at least 2 hours. Shortly thereafter though, Nanny's infectious spirit (which consisted of berating me for my lack of willpower) spilled over and subsequently, I picked up my determination again.

I remain focused.

Scared.

I am not a fan of birds. When one of them start coming toward me I am very scared. This past Saturday, I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Very fun place to visit. The only drawback? Large birds get to walk around everywhere...and they are out to get you. You might just be enjoying your wrap sandwich, oblivious to the fact that there are 10 foot geese with their large black bills about to poke you in the back.

And here is my non-friend, the pelican. I cannot think how people think this bird is charming.

Birds of the world...please stay away from me. I don't want you pooping on me, pecking my eyes out, or coming at me in a whole flock of a billion birds. You and I cannot be friends.

Knick and Knacks of Life

First things first. Goodbye Captain.

Is nothing sacred anymore?! Although from what I've read, the way they had him die is very deep, very interesting and a wonderful commentary. I need to get my hands on one...totally sold out though. I guess I will wait for the 6 part graphic novels. Each character in the Marvel Universe will represent a different stage of grief...starting with WOLVERINE

Also, a group of friends and I are doing a half-Lent. I guess not really Lent, but more giving up something tangible that is toxic and/or unneccesary in our lives. That's not really the point of Lent. Anyways, I thought "I should give up dating". It has certainly been toxic in the last few months...not really been helping my life any...and fairly easy as I don't like to do it much anyways. However, this might be cheating, and so I will change it to not going out to eat in restaurants. So if anyone needs an explanation for the next few weeks...well, there you have it!

Hee. Not, that I'm saying I'm a hot, sane, intelligent woman...but I will believe what I want to believe.

So there is this site (you can maybe find it through a search engine...but I won't post a link as it is not kid friendly) that is freakin' HILARIOUS. Michael was trying to get me to buy "Dating For Dummies" at Borders, but I refused. This I would buy.

So apparently I have a few issues (brought to my attention) that I had previously not known about. 1) I am picky? I think not, but I am being told yes. I think people say it as a compliment or an excuse though. 2) I purposely try to sabotage my love life. Again, see above. Okay...some of the things I have recently done were not the smartest...and I guess only the tough or insane would put up with some of my neurotics...but purposely sabotage?? I think not. 3) I keep every eligble guy as a friend...but they ARE my friends!!! What can I do about that?!

My Obsession

I'm biting this title off of Mrs. Sporadic Blogger. I was reading about her manly desires for gadgetry and I was wondering what is my obsession? The answer was obvious...food.

"Food, glorious food! We're anxious to try it.Three banquets a day -- Our favourite diet!Just picture a great big steak --Fried, roasted or stewed.Oh, food,Wonderful food,Marvellous food,Glorous food." --Oliver
This pretty much sums up my thoughts about food. I love everything about it. I love making food, I love buying food, I love eating food. I love being served at a fancy schmancy restaurant with wonderful ambience, company, wine. I love going to a hole in the wall stand and eating yummy fried crap with some pepto and beer. I love food. The greatest part of my week is wondering what yummy food I will eat. Will I be eating comfort food or will I be eating some crazy caviar + mango + crazy crap combo? Should I have the mojito, ice tea, or wine? Am I eating too much fish and getting mercury poisoning?
In fact, if I could blog about food all day I think I would. I'm also very hungry right now.

A Little Buzz Never Hurt?

Wrong.

So Lasko and I have been going to Happy Hour before guitar class every Wednesday. One drink only...it makes me a little happy, but unfortunately, only for an hour.

I turn obnoxiously cranky right after...pretty much 30 mins into guitar class. Every single week.

This has caused much guitar unhappiness. It was suggested I try tea instead before class. I think I will go with this next week.
